Whitsunday Family Adventure Holiday

In The Whitsunday Islands And Great Barrier Reef

The Whitsunday Islands are the perfect place for your family to spend time together this summer. With stunning white sandy beaches, plenty of water activities and loads of things to see and do, it’s the ultimate family adventure holiday destination.

If you’re looking for a holiday your kids will always remember then look no further than a fully catered sailing cruise in the Whitsundays.

We cover everything you need to know about visiting this bucket list destination as a family in our sample itinerary below with a sample itinerary to showcase what is available to you (depending on which vessel and trip you choose).

Day 1 – Depart Coral Sea Marina 8:30am + Whitehaven Beach Day Trip

Day 2: Kayaking and Relax Onboard

Start day two with a unique adventure. Kayaking and breakfast on the beach in the stunning 26 degree weather.

Perhaps it’s a fishing trip or you might decide to spend the morning relaxing onboard. The kids are entertained for hours on the Rope Swing (Solway Lass only) whilst you enjoy a good book and cuppa whilst watching them squeal with delight. After lunch you have a nap in the air conditioned cabins, the kids paddle board off the boat and then you get ready for Happy Hour where you can meet new friends as the sun goes down.

After a gourmet dinner you decide to gather the family and play one of the many board games if aboard Solway Lass, then move to the top deck for some star gazing – the finest around with millions of stars to view.

Day 3: Sailing & Snorkelling Safari Day Trip

Today is your second Full-Day Activity, the Southern Cross Langford Reef Day Sail onboard an authentic ex-America’s Cup Sailing Yacht.

You’ll visit Langford Island Reef and Lookout and Bali High, your snorkelling location North of Hook Island. Some of the best snorkelling in the Whitsunday Islands. Enjoy a buffet lunch, with morning and afternoon tea before returning back to your Floating Hotel around 4pm.

Tonight you decide to play cards on the deck and you realise that without screens or wifi, the kids are having a blast!

Day 4: Ngaro Caves and Waterhole + Departure

On your final day you take the kids on an education tour to the Ngaro Cultural Walk, Caves and Waterhole.

This ancient cave art was painted by the traditional inhabitants of the Whitsunday Islands dating back 9000 years and are the oldest Indigenous site on the whole of Australia’s East Coast.

Then depart back to Coral Sea Marina at 3:30pm.

What To Know Before Your Trip

You’ll need appropriate clothes, beach towel, toiletries, hat, swimwear, sunscreen, wet weather jacket, camera, sunglasses and cash or credit card for onboard purchases such as alcohol or soft drinks (everything else is covered). Because the Whitsundays are tropical, you’ll just need two pairs of shoes some lightweight sandals or flip flops for the beach and sneakers for bushwalking.

The Whitsundays are a casual island destination, so you can pretty much wear whatever you want! We have Happy Hour on the boat each evening 4pm – 6pm, outside of this clothes for outdoor activities is appropriate.

Just keep in mind that the evenings can be a little breezy, so a light sweater or windbreaker might come in handy. Pack your belongings for your trip in a soft-sided, zipless bag to easily fit in the cabins.

Whilst the Whitsundays are a tropical destination, the weather is generally temperate year-round with average temperatures ranging from around 22°C-30°C.

Things to note:

Your trip includes all meals and snacks throughout the duration of the trip. We use locally sourced, seasonal fruits and vegetables and our crew freshly prepare each meal for you to enjoy. Usually served buffet-style, meals are a great communal time to get to know your fellow travellers. Never go hungry with big servings and plenty of snacks in between.

It also includes your choice of activities, services of the skipper and crew, all meals and snacks, tap water, tea and coffee, snorkelling equipment and basic tuition, stinger suits, bed linen, bath towels and all marina levies.

Make new friends or organise with families you know to all book a particular vessel at the same time and take over the entire boat. With different cabin configurations, we can accommodate everyone!

Either come for a weekend getaway, or add on a resort stay at Hamilton Island, Daydream Island or Airlie Beach and enjoy both an unforgettable experience alongside a relaxing resort holiday.
